Paul Margerison is a ceramic artist whose work explores the ephemeral nature of memories, and contrasts them with material remnants of a life. His work draws on the visual language of collage, combining varied clay bodies with found photographs and typographical fragments, often sourced from scripture. These perishable elements are brought together and recast in ceramic, giving them solidity, and (apparently) permanence. The resulting works are like monuments to memory: tangible tributes to changing faces, beliefs, and attitudes. Paul’s work invokes holidays long since passed, gatherings, homes, relationships forgotten even by those who owned them. The works invite us to wonder where the subjects of the photographs are today.
Paul works as a commercial designer, with an education in Fine Art and Digital Design. Originally from the North of England, he now lives in North London with Tammy and their sons.
