Tammy Gur

Introducing Tammy Gur, an artist whose work engages with the themes of the human form, emotional states, and relationships. Tammy's portraits are the product of intense observation and have evolved over more than 20 years. Working primarily in oil pastel on paper, she often uses vintage or contemporary printed publications as her canvas. The text integrated into the compositions prompts the viewer to assign meaning to the figures, and adds a contrasting texture to the hand-drawn marks. Her background in graphic design informs the grammar of form and composition—particularly the interplay between letterforms, bodies, and the spaces around them. Her work contrasts the organic with the constructed, and the external with the inner state, resulting in portraits that are both intimate and arresting. Tammy works as a User Experience Designer, with an education in Life Drawing, Graphic Communication Design, and Digital Design. Her work has been exhibited in several commercial galleries. Tammy lives in North London with Paul and their two sons.
