The Connor Brothers

The Connor Brothers have been stirring up the art world with their hard-hitting combination of retro design and contemporary satire for over a decade. Their statement literary artworks are inspired by the covers of vintage books, including Penguin Classics and 1950s pulp fiction titles which they transform with their own witty, sometimes outrageous titles.

This obsession with truth and fiction is the golden thread that runs throughout the life and work of the Connor Brothers and is particularly relevant in the current climate of fake news, post-truth and social media. The brothers create retro style figurative images which encourage us to challenge our assumptions and preconceptions, and as a result to perhaps see the world a little differently. Their interest in undermining our assumptions and casual acceptance of cultural norms is reflected in their extraordinary background.

With their new-look collection, they have reimagined Pelican Books’ iconic academic series to present an unfiltered educational experience all their own.

Emma Gibbons

Emma Gibbons’s exuberant, mixed-media artworks embody the joy and energy of popular culture. Known as ‘the glittering queen of Pop Art’, she is Inspired by festivals, nightlife, and her personal journey from party life to sobriety, she uses her rainbowcoloured art to celebrate creativity and transformation, channelling her emotions of positivity nostalgia, and curiosity, to deliver uplifting, cathartic experiences.

Emma’s early passion for treasures and the unconventional stems from her Cornish heritage, having grown up in a family with a history of pirates and smugglers. This unique background inspires her art, where each piece is meticulously crafted from miniature hand-made components (often involving curious, precious and occasionally contraband materials) to reveal a sense of playfulness and mystery

Danielle O’Connor Akiyama

For five decades this very special artist has been inspiring art lovers, wowing curator and critic alike, and amassing a following of loyal and dedicated collectors from all over the world with her artistic vision, talent and unrivalled passion. Kind in spirit and generous in nature, she has shared through her art, the highs, lows and loves of her life, and we are both proud and honoured to have been part of that journey.

Painting with an uninhibited vigour and freedom, Danielle creates luminous images that vibrate with life, energy and colour. Whether she is depicting a riotous party of flowers or inviting us to enter a radiant new world of abstraction, her vibrant palette, loose formal structure and unique vocabulary of signs and symbols make her work both instantly recognisable and utterly irresistible.

Although her home is in Canada and Ireland, Danielle has travelled to every continent of the world seeking inspiration for subjects, colours and textures both through local culture and nature. She also collects minerals including gold, quartz and diamond tailings, pounding them to create texture in her paints and making her works even more original by “connecting them to the earth”.

Simon Kenny

“It looks like everything about space I cannot explain.” Stephen Hawking

Simon Kenny is a multi award winning artist, celebrated nationally and internationally for his vibrant, expressive paintings. His style is best described as ‘lyrical abstraction’; characterised as a ‘radical Turner’, in recent press coverage he has attracted significant attention for his growing collection of ‘colour burst’ paintings.

Simon’s fascination with the world around him clearly manifests itself through his work, yet no piece is ever site specific. His aim is for the viewer to connect personally with each composition – to be reminded of a place they once knew, or visited by an unexpected moment of emotion.

Born in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland, Simon discovered his love of art at a young age. Following his natural artistic instinct he acquired techniques and preferences which he relates through his work, encompassing brush and palette knife work, subtle under-painting and graduating alterations in colour.

Dramatic, atmospheric and totally captivating, Simon’s dynamic abstracts are widely collected by both private and corporate clients located around the globe, and he has a huge collector base in the USA. His work has appeared in many prestigious exhibitions and galleries including the Saatchi Gallery.
