Melissa Lipkin

Melissa was born in South Africa in1950 and moved to London with her family in 1961. She studied at Camberwell School of Art and achieved a BA in Art History at the University of Sussex where her Professor was Quentin Bell.

Light and its ever changing quality and play on everyday objects and familiar places has been her enduring interest: intimate interiors and well loved views caught at a specific time of day. The vivid colours and strong light of her childhood spent in Africa have remained at the heart of her art. Her studio in Spain, where she predominantly works in oil, provides the warm colours and sunlight that is the thread through her work today.

The juxtaposition of the organic world outside and the domestic space inside well describes her collection of works on display at the Highgate Art Fair. Empty of people, her paintings invite the viewer to become the solitary person in the room or at the window. They are observations of the power of light.

Melissa has exhibited in South Africa (Everard Read, Julian Simon, Jacobs Liznaitsky) USA (Read Stremmel in Texas) and was an artist in residence at Glyndebourne Opera. She has sold to private clients in UK,USA and South Africa.

She lives and works in Spain and London.
